Art on Board's most recent initiative focuses on bringing our Active. Creative. Engaged. principles to Bed Stuy's PS301 Satellite East Middle School. A group of 15 students is working on a semester-long project that has tasked them with designing, sourcing, printing, marketing, and selling their own tee shirts. Profits from tee shirt sales will then be funneled back to the group through a culturally-relevant trip of their choosing.
Students applied skills fundamental to graphic design and illustration to create original concepts, and are now in the process of turning those designs into profit. Throughout the remainder of the semester, skills such as photography, web design, marketing, client relations, and overall project management will allow our team to successfully navigate the business landscape.
SATELLITE EAST GRAPHICS CURRENT STATUS - 5/10/16: After receiving their first shipment of merchandise, students were quickly able to open a retail account at nearby Sincerely, Tommy. Kid Awesome tees will be for sale at S,T, as well as through the AoB web store.
3/4/16: The team at Satellite East has built a web storefront from where they will sell their tee shirts. Shirts are currently being produced in upstate New York and will be available for sale this spring.
11/18/15: After finalizing their designs, building marketing plans, and presenting the state of the project to their peers, our group is currently working on sourcing a print partner while simultaneously building out their webstore.
On April 19th, 2013, a group of University of Vermont Entrepreneurial Leadership students hosted a charity art auction at Burlington's BCA Gallery. That event, in response to Professor Dita Sharma's Make a Difference project, not only received a perfect score, but also garnered attention throughout the Burlington community. In the two-plus years that have followed, Art on Board has hosted community engagement events from coast-to-coast, each becoming bigger and better than the previous. It is these events that allow the organization to directly engage all corners of our community, and build the thriving network that has contributed to our ongoing success.
Art on Board's first west coast initiative. A two-day event featuring our signature snowboard gallery, a free youth skate clinic, live art, and a premier of Drink Water's Pathology Project.
Our current home base. Art on Board has presented a full community art gallery, contributed to several creative events, and is currently teaching a middle school entrepreneurship through the arts program.
Art on Board's birthplace, and home of our biggest gallery to date. Support from the Vermont community has allowed AoB to grow from a class project to the influential organization of today.
Art on Board's Public Arts initiative was conceived as a way to further engage our communities while simultaneously spreading the magic and beauty of public art. Our first public arts effort took place in August of 2015 as members of the Art on Board team traveled with NYC artist Mitchell Schorr for a five-day traveling mural tour that saw the artist add seven new installations and over 5,000 sq. feet of artwork to his already impressive list of accolades.
Ongoing public arts initiatives will serve as a way to collaborate with creative members of our communities while expanding our reach and engagement.
